Some ferns have been on earth for more than 300
million years and are found all over the world (about 12000 species).
They have a primitive but complex reproductive system.
Today they are popular as indoor plants, in
courtyards and they soften the landscape in the garden.
Outdoors they should be planted on the south side of the house in cooler
shady areas. Keep moist but do not over water.
Indoors, particularly with air conditioning
systems, place pots on a tray filled with gravel and water to prevent drying
out. Occasionally spray the foliage with a fine mist of water.
