Ctenanthe |
Another genus from the
colourful Marantacea family, Ctenanthe are native
to Brazil. The leaf is asymmetrical with a herringbone pattern of
indented bars (sometimes a darker shade) |
Most leaves are green or
grey/green, often with the typical Marantacea purple back. If these
plants are stressed by low water or temperature the leaves will roll up. |
While Ctenanthe prefer part
shade conditions they will grow in full sun in subtropical climates.
They will also grow in warm areas of a temperate garden. |
As a house plant, they need good
drainage, frequent watering and will appreciate the foliage being sprayed
(misted) daily.
