Ctenanthe

  
Another genus from the colourful Marantacea family, Ctenanthe are native to Brazil.  The leaf is asymmetrical with a herringbone pattern of indented bars (sometimes a darker shade)

 
Most leaves are green or grey/green, often with the typical Marantacea purple back.  If these plants are stressed by low water or temperature the leaves will roll up.

 

 
While Ctenanthe prefer part shade conditions they will grow in full sun in subtropical climates.  They will also grow in warm areas of a temperate garden.

 
As a house plant, they need good drainage, frequent watering and will appreciate the foliage being sprayed (misted) daily.
